Catalans only tend to eat as much as they need. Our puppies were fed initially on mother’s milk followed by Royal Canin Pediatric Starter Mother and Pup migrating to Royal Canin Junior. These were supplemented with Puppy Mousse, some finely shredded chicken breast and the odd bit of mum’s food when out and about exploring the kitchen - mostly the same lesser shredded chicken and some tuna in brine.
Sephie has been provided a multitude of different brand/food types and seems to have established a preference for Royal Canin Hypoallergenic dry food.
Unnsa was provided Royal Canin Medium Junior dry food as a puppy despite helping herself to Sephie’s food regularly!
Both diets were frequently supplemented with cooked chicken breast, tuna in brine and/or basmati rice for variety and still are!
Rob, being the softie, often brow-beaten by ‘puppy-eyes’, occasionally ‘donates’ some of his meals against better judgment - mild curried chicken breast, mince (sometimes within flour tortilla), cod, tuna and various hard cheeses either straight or somewhat melted in a croissant. For some reason the dogs are not disposed to his salad/vegetables - much like our teenagers!
Any disruption to the normal diet can result in adverse effects so be on standby with carpet cleaner and/or pooh bags!
While, undoubtably contrary to all manner of best practice, thanks to Rob’s soft heart, our cherished Catalans, Sephie and Unnsa, are rewarded with treats far more often than they ought.
Sephie’s fav, during puppyhood, is still one of her favourites, despite her advancing years (now >5 years old). Pets at Home’s own brand, these treats disappeared for several months - much to the consternation of dog and owner - only to resurface as a rebranded product. Phew!
In the interim a few other products were tried and tested. The successors are also listed below. Now the doggies have more variety as a result.
Additionally both dogs have taken a penchant for Pets at Home’s own Dental Sticks - which is good as they are encouraged, once a day, to promote healthy teeth and gums.
